Amnesty International: France tolerate the excesses of security forces

Amnesty International accused the French authorities of failing to investigate alleged violations committed by security forces. The organization said that the French authorities rarely investigate allegations of the detainees was beaten - and even liquidation - at the hands of police and security, and rarely bring those responsible to eradicate such practices.

According to Amnesty International in a report released this effect was specific cases owners - mostly foreigners, and members of ethnic minorities - for violations.

But French officials have denied that the authorities tolerate no violations have been committed by the police.

But David Diaz Djokis, deputy director of Europe and Central Asia of Amnesty, said: "In the climate of the violations committed by the police to pass with impunity, it is not acceptable to have these amounts to legal immunity against prosecution."

While Amnesty acknowledged that "not all the complaints against the police are justified," adding that the large difference between the number of complaints and the number of penalties issued against the accused, "raises questions about the accuracy and impartiality of the investigation."

The report says that a large number of complaints against the police officers are being impounded by the prosecution prior to referral to the courts.

But Didier Guillaume, a spokesman for the French Ministry of Justice, rejected the charges saying: "There is no complacency at all with the excesses committed by the police. We are fundamental in the criminal investigation of these cases, the police have no more rights or less than any other accused."

The French Interior Ministry for its part, said: "No police officer is above the law."
